In The Midst of Every Storm

In the midst of every storm is a blessing. Although when we're going through each one of them it sometimes feel like we're drowning, but we're not, God's mighty hand is there with us carrying us through to the end. Therefore, whenever you go through a storm, don't lose hope but continue to place your trust in the lord, He's faithful.

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hoop Hunter's Coach/Trainer Perspectives

What Coaches Like About Coaching Players?
Coaches like coaching players who has a positive attitude, works hard in the classroom, practice and in games, who will listen and trust what they tell them without second guessing their authority.

What Trainers Like About Training Players?
Trainers like training players who are serious about improving & upgrading their skill sets & play, who will take what they've been taught, practice it, perfect it, make it permanent and go perform it against highly competitive competition without making excuses.

What Hoop Hunter Hates The Most?
I hate watching talented capable players sit on the bench because they failed to put in the necessary work "on their own time" to separate themselves from their competition in order to deserve quality playing time.

~"If you don't put in the time, you will most often sit on the pine (the bench)"~

What Hoop Hunter Don't Care For During Games?
I don't care for players who turn, look & listen to their parents yell for them to do selfish things from the stands that goes against the coaches game plan!!!!!!!

Did You Know?
*Most non-aggressive players lack confidence in some area (s) of the game.

*Confidence & aggressiveness dwell together, you can't have one without the other!

P.S. This was written to give players and parents healthy food for though from a coach/trainer perspective.

"My Mission In Life Is To Help Others Learn 2 Become Successful"

Helping others become successful at baring fruit is one of the most self-gratifying, selfless, personal & self-rewarding gifts anyone can ever give to a friend, brother/sister, teammate, stranger and/or neighbor.

Throughout my life, I've had several people [rich, well off & poor]who sowed [all types of things] into what I now call, "My Success."

The one thing that I remember about each of those very special people that helped me the most is that they planted & sowed "Seeds of Success" into my future.

They always spoke to me using healthy words of encouragement, shared knowledge, gave lots of do's & don't advice, they spent quality time with me, when I messed up, they picked me up and also continued to believe & love me unconditionally.

Today, I'm a proud product of several hundred men and women who's successful paths I learned to follow because they chose to sow and invest in me with a selfless, tireless and sincere heart.

Acts 20:35
"It's more blessed to give than it is to receive"

Teamwork Makes Community Work

In our community & society today, there's lots of gifted and talented, self serving, self-absorbed, prideful and domain driven individuals. [It Doesn't Have 2Be That Way!]

Our community and society as a whole work much better when we respectfully recognize each others Godly gifts [ EACH ONE TEACH ONE] while also sharing & embracing the gifts of others (our friends & neighbors).

When God gives anyone a unique set of gifts, He also expects them to remain faithful, humble, meek, friendly and welcoming towards others.

Together, let's continue to build healthy alliances while also respecting our unique spiritual gifts and calling.

Teamwork Makes Community Work!

Protect Your Mind From Foolish Things & People

Don't allow your mind to be consumed by foolish THINGS and/or PEOPLE. Our minds are very precious and require protection against THINGS and PEOPLE that negatively effect how we think, feel and act.

Too often we allow unnecessary THINGS such as; television, radio, internet, popular trends, social media and people to negatively impact how we think, feel and act because we allow them to consume us to the point that we began to ingest negative thoughts, ideas, false beliefs and doubts which in turn lead to self-doubt, stress, worry, anxiety and low self-esteem.

Remember, the best way to protect your mind is to renew it daily by reading God's word.

Bible Verses
Romans 12:1-2 (Renew your minds)
Philippians 4:8 (Think of things that are pure, excellent, honorable & lovely)

Jesus Christ Died For All Our Sins

Jesus Christ forgave Saul who later became Paul in the bible for killing Christian's (intentionally).

~Paul's epistles can be read in the new testament~

If Jesus Christ can forgave Saul (for killing Christian's) who later became Paul and an apostle for Christ, then you can expect the same Jesus Christ to forgive all of man's earthly sins as well.

[Jesus died for all of our sins]

Romans 8:28
For all things work together for the good of those who love the lord and who are called according to His purpose in Christ Jesus.

What To Do When Facing Criticism

When facing criticism, think before you act. Too often student-athletes react very quickly to criticism without fully thinking things through. As a former student-athlete, I can remember countless times while playing for a very demanding coach that I failed at responding to his commands because I repeatedly took what was said personally, as well as I wore my feelings on my shoulders.

[ "I failed because I didn't respond appropriately"]

The best way to handle unwanted criticism is to think things through before you act, don't take it personal and do your best to respond to it in a manner the best represents yourself & Christ.

Your Destiny Belongs To You | Hoop Hunter TM

Get Ready to Step Into Your Exceptional

After God has prepared, refined & shaped you (by way of all types of trials A-Z), get ready to step into your exceptional.
And when this happens, don't expect all of your so called friends to understand you as God prepares your 747 (airplane) for take off towards a higher destiny far greater than anyone else could have imagined.
"Keep telling yourself, it's about to happen"
Oh, and be mindful of the fact that some of your former [fake] friends won't be able to get on the plane with you (to head toward your new destination) because they lacked the belief that a bigger plan (by God) could ever exist for your life.
"Keep telling yourself, it's about to happen"

Love Em Anyway

I believe that deep in the heart of every mean spirited, provocative & even hateful person is a nice, warm-heart, kind, friendly & loving person that hungers & thirst for acceptance by others.

In other words, the good in some people have been infected, buried, lost, chained or even mislead by something in their past and/or upbringing that has tainted how they see themselves and how they treat others.

#Love Em Anyway!

The Path You've Been Called Might Look Different

The path that God has chosen for you may look different from your friends, parents and even your siblings, but with joy, entrust your calling unto the lord and always give it your best.

Be Careful When Establishing Old & New Relationships with Others

~The words of the wicked often warps the mind of a righteous innocent person~
When establishing old relationships with others, be careful, too often old relationships can come back tainted and field with lots of garbage (brought on by others) that no longer lines up with your values.
And when establishing new relationships with others , remember that most are driven by personal motives and lots of personal self-interest, meaning, you have something of importance that they need and /or want from you. And for the time being they're willing to be nice and be your friend.
~If the relationship doesn't feel right from the beginning, that's a sign to be careful~
"Unfortunately, sometimes in life you must handle old and new relationships with a long handle spoon (keep your distance & give it time) until you know within your heart that the person (s) have a legitimate, sincere and pure reason for wanting to be re-aquatinted or aquatinted with you."

Successful People Had Thoughts of Quitting

Contrary to what most people think, anyone who've had a small or high level of success can tell you that at some point throughout the process, they thought about quitting. The thought of quitting is simply that, a thought, not an action.

Therefore whenever you fail at something, as long as it doesn't end your personal self-drive & self-determination, continue to make strides to reach your success destination, and remember the thought of quitting doesn't make you a failure, it actually lights the pilot to your success!

Deon Gives A Personal Testimony & Thoughts About Being a Disciple & The Church

Not until I fully understood the bible verse below and what it meant did I come to realize that I (Deon) have a responsibility as a member of the body of Christ to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ unashamedly, outside the church.
~Obedience To Christ Is The Only Thing That Matters~
“I can’t just go sit in church, look at the same people, go through the same old routine and leave the church building And Not Be The Church On The Streets- Where Many Are Lost, And Keep My Mouth Closed, Just Can’t Do It!”
~How many lost people do you see at church  eager to get saved, Not many? Why? Because most people who are lost don’t feel welcomed by the church~
As a Christ follower, you have to ask yourself, how many people have I led to the lord?

Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples throughout the nations"

What to do when told not to shoot the basketball?

~Respect The Coaches Call~Players don't over react & take it personal when a coach ask you not to shoot the basketball during practice or during a game, most of the time they have a reason, and in some cases (because they're the person in authority), they may not feel led to justify it to you.
~Learning to respect the coaches call isn't always easy but respect it anyway~

Don't Think Less of Yourself

Don't let the dislikes of others, a lack of promotion on your job, the lack of a high paying job, the lack of a luxury or sports car, the lack of a home in a crime free neighborhood and/or the lack of playing time on a team cause to think less of yourself, "you were born with a seed with excellence."

In the eyes of the Lord, you will always matter!

Hoop Hunter's Thoughts About Sports Criticism

2 Types:
1. Constructive Criticism
2. Belittle & Degrading Criticism
Student-athletes who participate in sports will at some point get a taste of both, constructive and belittle and/or degrading criticism; but when face with either, don't take what's being said personally, but rather use it to fuel your performance.
Most coaches goal and intent when criticizing is get their players to perform at a high meaningful level. Too often and in many cases, some players are too "touchy feely" and they wear their feelings on their shoulders, which in sports isn't a healthy way to compete.
"Early in my high school career, I used to be a touchy feely kind of player, I but I realized real quickly that if I didn't change, my career would be over sooner than later."

Deon aka Hoop Hunter

The Need For Change

Before change can occur, you must first have a desire, a want too and a growing need before the process can ever get started.

Change isn't easy for most people because we are creatures of habit. In addition to that, before real change can take place, a person must be self-motivated and willing to make the necessary sacrifices to give up things that has led to them having a desire, a want too and/or a growing need for change.

Possible Areas for Change

  • Anger
  • Resentment
  • Alcohol & Drug Abuse
  • Family Discourse
  • Lying
  • Laziness
  • Overweight
  • The Need For Better Friends

Matthew 19:26(NIV)

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Deon says, "Let all of your needs for change begin with prayer as you trust faithfully in God"

Everyday Is Important

Everyday, I want is to get better!
Everyday, I want to be the best that I can be!
Everyday, I want to help and pray for others!
Everyday, I want to establish new horizons!
Everyday, I want to trust in the faithfulness of God!

Personal Player Development Training Has Value

After nearly 28 years of personal player development training, I can say this, " If you do the work, the results will come."

Whatever you want in life will come with a price that you must be willing to pay if you hope to get anything out of it. Just being smart and/or just showing up for work but not working hard isn't enough, and will ultimately lead to failure.

"Work daily with diligence and you will most definitely bare fruit"

Important Parent Information About HHB Club Team Program:

What we offer?
1. Opportunity for players to grow, develop and improve their skills playing basketball.
2. Opportunity to gain experience playing the game.
3. Good quality coaching & mentorship.
4. A healthy environment conducive to your child learning and growing with other players and families on and off the court.
5. An organization with nearly 28 years of experience, player success, credibility, stability, integrity & honesty.
~Because of the ways of people in the world, we don't put all of our eggs into off-season (AAU, Select, Club Team & Hyped Up Names) basketball~
What we don't offer nor allow?
1. We don't offer false hope and neither do we promise playing time to players who aren't committed to learning, playing & working as a team.
2. We don't allow parents who've attended a tryout and offered a spot to choose whether they're going to play based on them attending the first practice to see if it's a good fit. It's probably better that we resend our offer or better still just simply find another place to play.
3. We don't allow bartering.
4. We don't allow parents to belittle other players, other parents, coaches or the organization.
5. We're willing to lose 1 or 2 players (unhealthy fit for our teams) and keep 8 or 9 players (good fits).
HHB offers year round high level player development training (from a private, small group & team setting) to players when they get serious about their personal success in basketball.

What Makes HHB/BBI Families Special?

What makes HHB families special and me proud is that they are very loyal, genuine, caring, pioneers and they’re very supportive of our mission and most are faithful prayer warriors.
Their kids give their best on and off the court/field while also respecting authority. They have a sense of balance when it comes to competitive sports, education, missions, donating their time to local charities, life skills, Christian & family values and they have a sincere heart to “love all people”, especially the poor and those who have needs greater than the norm.

"Being A Student of The Game"

"Players of all sports bare the responsibility of becoming a student of the sport"
The phrase "student-athlete" is often perceived as a person who plays sports and who makes academics a top and high priority; however players must also be reminded that being a student-athlete requires that you continue to increase your knowledge and schooling in the area of the sport you've chosen to play.
Something to remember:
Increased knowledge in areas of your life that are important to you will have a increasing and everlasting positive impact on the outcome of your overall performance & interest.

"Give Coaches A Break"

Good coaches in many cases get a bad rap because they sometimes inherit players who are undisciplined, unskilled, un coachable, non-competitive and some even have unhealthy work habits & negative attitudes which in many cases causes unwanted problems (on the team) that ultimately become the coaches nightmares.

Not all coaches are bad, in fact, most are pretty good and are exactly what student-athletes need to continue to grow and develop into the type of players & person they desire to become.

Give good coaches a break because they too are human and truly care about young people, their personal growth and overall development in sports and life.

The next time you feel the need to lash out at a good coach and/or throw him/her under the bus, stop, take a look in the mirror and remember that none of us are perfect, [not even you] and that prayer is and always will be the answer.

God Put "Faith Inside of His Word"

~ There is Faith & Power in God's Holy Word and in the name of Jesus~

God placed faith inside of his word therefore when we get the word inside of our hearts, we get the faith. And when we have the faith (living inside of us) we're able to speak the work of God against any and all things that comes against us in the name of Jesus.

Read The Word, Get The Faith!

Sowing & Seeding The Success Of Others

Reaching out and touching the hands of others for the sole purpose of helping them achieve a higher level of success suitable to their needs and liking is the fundamental principle of sowing and seeding the success of others without wanting anything in return.

Everyone has something that they can offer to someone else. It takes selflessness and a heart of generosity to invest in someone else's future. Therefore, when it's in your power to act, in good will for the good of others, be bold and plant the seed.

~"God will always replace what you give when you give with the heart of Christ"~

Positive People Produce Positive Resuts

Stop listening to lies! Stop listening to negative people! Stop listening to media propaganda!

It's all designed to get you confused, worried, place fear inside of your mind and paralyze you for the sole purpose of keeping you from living a life filled with joy, peace, happiness and contentment.

Something 2 Remember:
"Positive people with positive messages produce positive results as well as they have a greater impact on effective growth among people throughout our society."

Deon

Our Success Is Connected 2 Our Failures

Sadly enough but true, our struggles, disappointments, failures and losses are connected to the overall success of man.

God is a good God, and he loves all of his children, especially those who Trust Him, Obey Him and Have Faith in Him during the midst of all types of storms.

What seems to lost in the minds, hearts and souls of man is the fact that we (God's children) have been created in his image. And with that said, we were predestined by our maker to overcome all things (in Christ we have no limitations) and succeed.

Therefore it's important to know that when we surrender whole heartedly to the word of God and we read, pray, meditate, trust and obey with faith, that God will always sustain, grow, improve, enlighten, restore, comfort, deliver, provide, heal and guide us in the successful paths that he predestined for our lives.

1 Peter 2:6

Deon Hunter aka Hoop Hunter 2 Coach 5th Grade Boys Team?

Yes, it's true, I'm considering coaching our HHB 5th grade competitive boys team this off-season. And if i decide to do so, I will be looking for kids with good basketball IQ, competitive, good self- drive, coachable, with good parents who won't get in the way of my leadership, cohesiveness, players with above average dribbling skills, passing skills, Shooting skills, has a concept of how to play defense & offense, good post skills, good guard skills, players who are willing to play as a team, can make practices, good academics, willing to practice outside of our HHB practices, who will remain committed through the good, not so good and the ugly, parents who won’t sit in the stands and degrade the team & coach when we go through rough patches and players who will allow me challenge them to grow in a constructive way beyond their comfort level.
Tryouts are this Saturday at HHB facility, if you know of competitive players who might come close to fitting this profile, please ask them to sign up online to participate at:www.hoophunter.com
Please don't call to discuss your child's status prior to tryouts, we prefer to see what they can do on the court without being pre-judge mental. oh, and for the record, we can't and won't be bought by way of outside influences!
Thanks,
Deon aka Hoop Hunter

Wanting Others To Succeed Is A Good Thing

We've all been taught that life is more about individual success and competition rather than helping, hoping and encouraging others to succeed.

But more importantly, one must know, that life is more gratifying & rewarding when we give than when we receive.

~I find it very hard "Not" to want to see others do well~

As an obedient believer in the word of God, it's important that we (believers in Jesus Christ) remain committed to adhering to what the bible says and to "Not" allow ourselves to become calloused and self-centered in such a way that we can't wish success for our neighbors, friends, enemies and people who are in direct competition with us. "God will always make a way for the believer."

God promises to meet our needs no matter what, therefore, there's no need to worry, in Christ, we've got the victory.

Phillipians 4:19
But my God shall abundantly supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Throughout my 44 years of being involved in sports (27 as the leader of a faith based youth sports org.), I've seen more and more coaches (primarily high school) develop a hard core disrespect, dislike and non-willingness to work together (on one accord) with people (in and outside of their communities) such as; sports psychologist, sports counselors, off-season youth sport coaches, sports specific trainers & physical fitness trainers who like themselves love sports and who enjoy seeing the continued growth, success and development of kids educationally, physically, socially, spiritually and personally.

Most professionals who are healthy outside resources are nothing more than good hard working people who have been given a gift (from God) in specific areas and who have been called to help meet the needs of others but from an outside source setting (in which there's nothing wrong with that).

~”Coaches who grow their network, often improve their net worth”~

Because I have a voice and I have good will for all of my peers in sports, I'm committed to speaking about this long over due issue and the negative attitudes among most high school coaches who in many cases are a part of an "Good Old Boy System" and who's main concern is to only work with other high school coaches in a systematic way that further segregate themselves from other outside resources.

“A world divided against itself can not stand”

My hope and prayer is that all of us in sports who really want to help kids, families and communities grow would pray and ask God to open up their hearts and stop being divisive among each other. As you know, non of us can take our God given gifts to heaven. In fact, we are called by God to share, care and give our gifts to those in need while living together on earth in harmony.

I realize that for many of you, this cuts right to the chase but either you're apart of the problem and/or a healthy part of the solution. Pray for me as I pray for you. My hope is that all of us can learn to work together while also respecting our difference (in love).

When we all work together in a God pleasing way (as children of the most high), we can all thrive!

"Not My Will But Thy Will Be Done"

My Personal & Sincere Walk with The Lord

When God first called me into service for Him to become the steward of a Christ-centered youth sports organization, the biggest & best decision that I ever made was to say, "Yes" and then to surrender my personal will for the will of my father (God almighty).

Foot note: [Only What We Do for Christ Will Last]

My personal walk with The Lord has continued to drive my success in everything that I do (in fact it continues to elevate & increase as greater things are on the way).

Today,  I no longer see things from a mortal man's perspective, but more importantly with a spiritual (eyes) perspective as I continue to grow and develop from reading, studying, trusting and obeying the living word of God.

Foot note: [Those who are ashamed of the Gospel, can never please God]

Throughout my day to day experiences living and leading a Christ-centered life, I continue to discover that God's will for me & all of us is good and filled with lots of promises! And that when we surrender our will for the will of our father (which is perfected in Christ through faith), we no longer have to worry or stress about whether or not we're in the right place and doing the right things. For God's everlasting love, peace, favor and will for our lives, career and family will be upon us.

"Failure Ignites Success"

Student-athletes often face all types of good and not so good moments throughout every single day of their lives. And when it comes to playing sport too often players will face hardships, disappointments and self-doubts. They have on going and on growing moments when they feel like the sky is falling and they can't catch a break. But take heart, the sky isn't falling and that you're on the right track.

So, whenever things (on or off the court) doesn't go your way, don't give in, give out or give up because the experiences that your facing are being used to establish building blocks that will eventually ignite your success, if you don't quit.

"Keep Going I'm On The Right Track"

My Personal & Sincere Walk with The Lord

Throughout my walk with the lord, I've experienced misfortunes, trials, set backs, spiritual attacks, jealously, disloyalty and unanswered prayers. And through it all, I've learned to remain steadfast on trusting in the living word of God and not be discouraged.

It no longer matters what others think, but more importantly, what God thinks. In his word, he says,"I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU [Deon] NOR FORSAKE YOU" (Hebrews 13:5), and "ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM  [Deon] THAT LOVE THE LORD AND WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE IN CHRIST JESUS!" (Romans 8:28)

Therefore whenever I face all types of unwanted circumstances, I've learned not to take things personal but to embrace both the good and not so good knowing that I'm on the right track and that Satan, no matter how many road blocks he attempts to place in my path, I choose to use each of them to ignite my self-drive as I soar like an Eagle and accomplish the will of my father.

"Trust In Him"

My Personal & Sincere Walk with The Lord

Living a Christ-centered life and doing my very best to follow the readings of the holy bible isn't always easy, in fact, it's sometimes difficult but I have learned to simply trust in the lord with all my heart and lean not unto my own understanding but more importantly, obey the living word of God no matter how difficult life may seem. [Proverb 3:5]

The bible says, "that in this world, we will have troubles but take heart! I have already overcome the world. [John 16:33]

Therefore, I would advise all of God's children not to worry but to trust in the lord and KEEP THE FAITH even when things aren't going your way and look a bit bleak, and in His time God will make your way straight, just don't give up!

About Yesterday, Tomorrow & Today

Yesterday is gone and now belongs to the lord. Tomorrow is not here therefore there's no need to worry because it's also in the hands of the lord. Today is the only day that matters. Today we have control over what we do and how we respond to life, only Today.

Today is the only day that matters!
