2015 HHB & BBI Has Lots of Wonderful Blessings Coming Your Way
Proverbs 3:5 say's, "Trust in the lord with all your heart, mind and soul and lean not unto your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths straight."
And with that said, I want to personally thank each of you for (23 years) helping to pioneer such wonderful, spirit filled Christian youth sports organizations.
And because of your loyalty, commitment and God's faithfulness, He's inspired me to do some wonderful things (through faith) to bless children, youth, families and communities.
God has placed it on my heart to make basketball training and opportunities for kids (in all areas) more affordable (for everyone) as well as, He's placed it on my heart to go out into the world and adopt communities with children, who have greater needs than the norm and build hope, dreams, mentorship and spread the Gospel.
Therefore, beginning in 2015, you can expect to see several changes that I hope will bless you and your family and thousands of those who are considered the least of them.
Please pray with me as I take on this faithful challenge to continue to impact the world through the wonderful game of basketball, which, if taught well, can teach life skills and have a positive impact on children, families and communities throughout the world.
If you're in a position to volunteer, give or if you work for a company and have the means to sow into our Building Believers (not-for profit) organization, we would love to have you partner with our mission.
To donate to BBI go to; www.buildingbelievers.org, together, we can impact the world.
Respectfully,
Deon Hunter

"The Mental Game" Is Most Important
One of the most important but forgotten elements of the game that impacts how a talented, gifted, skilled, smart & athletic player fails to overcome throughout the season is the "Mental" part of the game.
Although young talented players are capable of having success, too often because of a weak "Mental" thought process, they are limited in their ability to overcome obstacles necessary to having sustained success.
"The Mental Game," like other important elements, must be taught, developed and nurtured. In many cases, the lack of having a strong Mental game is the life & death of successful performances.
There's a price you have to pay to be successful. Making one shot during a game has nothing to do with it! It's how to handle and deal with obstacles and hurdles.

Parents & Fans, Season Your Temper During Basketball Games, Don't Be An Embarrassment!
To all high school parents & fans:
In the next couple of weeks your favorite teams and player (s) will play lots of basketball during high school tournaments. And throughout the course of each game, things are not going to always go the way that you would like for them too. And as you already know, it's very easy to get emotionally involved in the play of your child, other peoples children as well as the play of the team.
May I offer a little advice?
Whatsoever you personally decide to do during the course of your frustration while watching a game, remember that your actions, be it good or bad, will be highly scrutinized by your peer group, administrators, other high school coaches, college coaches, your kids peer group and the public.
And also remember that as you walk up to others during or after games, that it's not a healthy idea to bash the team, the coaches and other players who you're not happy with behind their backs simply because your view of how things are going don't line up with reality. Not everyone on the face of earth agrees with you.
"As for me, if you see me at a game and we speak, keep it positive and I'll listen, go negative and watch me go the other way."
That's my 2 cents for today.
Good Luck!

During The Holidays, Don't Worry Be Happy!
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

This Holiday Season 3 Nice Spices To Share with Others: Encouragement, Hope & God's Faithfulness
This holiday season remember to be an encouragement to others by bringing them hope and sharing God's faithfulness. For He promises to be with us throughout all of our day to day endeavors.
Therefore, lets continue to put our full and faithful trust in Him. And all it takes is a simple moment of reflection for all of us to realize that He's brought us from a mighty long way. So, hold on, don't quit, because He's with you.

Coach vs Player
It Takes A Collaborative Working Effort:
It takes a collaborative working effort on behalf of the coach as well as the player before either can begin moving forward towards a meaningful and successful coach vs player relationship.
The player & coach must respect each other; and the coach should never exasperate the player.
I believe that before a player can get what they hope to gain from a coach, they must first respect and respond to the coaches authority, especially when asked to play a specific role.
However, I also believe that coaches bare the responsibility to help each player improve in areas of need, build confidence, be honest and look out for the players best life long interest (educationally, morally & athletically) without prejudice.

Why A Growing Number of Player Can't Perform 4 Their High School Coaches?
One of the things that I continue to recognize about young talented high school players is the fact that most have this idea that they can only perform on the court when they're being coached by their AAU or club team coaches (during the summer).
Perhaps this is true for them but the reality is this, if you can produce for your AAU & club team coaches and not your high school coaches (given you're getting a chance to play) this can have a negative impact on your team, career and ultimately colleges recruiting you.
As life goes on, what will you tell your employer?
To me, if you've been given a fair chance to prove yourself, you should be able to produce for your coaches and team. If a fair chance to prove yourself hasn't been given, I fully understand.
But regardless, keep working, you never know when your # will be called. The question is, when your # is called, will you be ready?

Shooting without the Dribble
"One of the most important things that a player must be able to do to play on the offensive end of the court is to be able to shoot the basketball without putting it on the floor."
Steps to practice to help you accomplish this:
#1 Back spin the ball to yourself to simulate receiving a pass.
#2 Catch the ball firmly.
#3 Pivot and square up to the basket.
#4 Feet apart, rear-end down, head up.
#5 Shoot quickly, concentrate on good form.
#6 Be sure to cover all areas of the floor that are game shots for your position.
*Do this over and over and over and over and over until you get the muscle memory down.

The Mirror, A Mere Reflection
Looking in the mirror only gives us a reflection, image and/or picture of what we look like on the outside.
Never use it to measure what's on the inside.
The beauty of what's on the inside of us should be measured by what's on the inside of our heart, mind and soul.

The Enemy Is After Our Expectations
The devil wants us to accept a wedding without wine, a life without joy, a house without a home and a marriage without love.
The devil is a liar, don't let him steal our expectations.

Basketball Advice
A former college MVP once said that, "during the season, the best never rest."
If you want to maximize your full potential, you must continue to invest in yourself. Remember, at the end of every game the coaches look at stats & film, and neither lie.
Although basketball is a team game, it's made up of individual performances. And in many cases when your performance isn't good enough, you have to sit the bench.
Do what you have to do to keep your game sharp or else the bench awaits!

Q: What to do when you're having coach-player problems?
A: Pray about it but respect the authority of the coach.
B. Rise above it to the best of your ability.
C. Raise your production on the court.
*Also know that sometimes in life, the only person you can change is yourself and how you deal with things you can't control.

Happy Thanksgiving from Deon:
I want to personally thank each of you for helping to pioneer HHB/BBI as a Christian youth sports organization. Because of you, we have been able to impact the lives of children, families and communities for 23 years.
Today as I reflect on our past, I'm reminded of the many loved ones we've lost and who are now in heaven. I miss and think about each of them often. I also think about those of you who I haven't personally seen in over 10-15 years. I pray that you and your family are doing well.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, I will be thinking about all of you and the many blessings that you've shared with me and others throughout the years.
Warm Wishes,
Warm Wishes,
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless You!

Hayden Hunter Highlight mix
Several year ago, my son Hayden told me that he wanted to play basketball. My first statement to him was,"If you really want to do this, you have to work with a trainer at our gym", he agreed. Throughout his young career, I encouraged him to play with our HHB Hustlers Club Team, give things a chance and not to get impatient. As he got older and his competitive play increased, I allowed him to play with an elite AAU team. As a result of his hard work and the outstanding middle/high school coaches and AAU coach, he became a college prospect. Thanks & blessings to everyone who invested in my son. Today, he's getting ready to play in his first college tournament game in the Virgin Islands for Weber St. Way to go Hayden.

About My Purpose
My purpose in life is bigger than my pay check, it's bigger than my house, my car, the stuff that I have, vacations, popularity, prestige and even fame.
My greatest joy comes from serving the needs of children, teenagers, young adults, families and communities who have needs that are bigger than anyone else knows, kids who are hurting, who lack self-pride, self worth, self-confidence, who need Godly advice & counseling and even hope.
After 23 years, I continue to see, feel and hear the presence of the lord saying, "I gave you a purpose now continue to abide in it."
Below is an email from a kid that I recently took some extra time to work with because I could feel his/her dispare from always losing, not being picked, getting cut and lacking hope in world of sports.

Dear Coach Deon,
Thank you for all of the time you put in to helping me get ready for
tryouts. I made the team and I know I couldn't have done it without you and God.
Thank you for praying for me and I will figure out if I made A or B
team Monday.

What Is Your "Busy" Doing For You?
1. Is it Making you more money?
2.Is it building a better relationship between you and your spouse?
3. Is it allowing you to spend more quality time with your children?
4.Is it keeping you healthy?
5 is it bringing you peace & happiness?

True Happiness
True happiness can only be found when we develop a sincere and personal relationship with Christ.
"I've tried it the other way, there's no comparison."
Your Happiness Matters
If most people were honest, they would tell you that life stinks, people stink and sometimes they're unsure of whether or not it can get any better.
We'll the answer is yes, it can get better. But are you willing to fully and faithfully surrender your entire life to serving, doing & obeying the will of God.
True happiness can only be found when we seek God with all of your heart.
My Personal Advice
Stop being misled by the direction of others. Start thinking for yourself and begin moving in a direction opposite of the masses.
[For the masses are often misleading]
"If everyone else is doing it, it's probably best that you move in a different direction."
Changing directions can often become a game changer in your life. Seek wisdom & the will of God and discover a new direction.

It embraces mentally tough, hard working, self-driven, resilient, confident, assertive & competitive players who learn to impose their own personal drive and will upon themselves to do,give and be their best daily.

HHB/BBI to Add Additional Services For the Community & Families with Children
HHB & BBI will begin adding additional services & activities (which will include a membership program) to our menu for the community and for families with age appropriate children.
What's On The Menu:
1. Host Birthday Parties
2. Free Play- Open Gym Opportunities
3. Sand Pit (conditioning training)
4. Outside Track (for speed, agility & quickness training)
5. Student Tutoring Opportunities
6. Activities Based Game Room
As a child, I grew up in a loving family with 4 siblings and a loving mother & father. After school & during the summer, I spent the majority of my time at the local recreation center. It was my home away from home. While there, I learned how to play table tennis, ceramics, how to cook, how to play basketball, learned physical exercises, fun group games, checkers, did homework, worked with tutors and learned to socially interact with my peer group.

God's divine gifts will ultimately seed your prosperity
What are the 3 biggest gifts you've received from God? Of the 3, there should be 1 if not 2 that are dominant & authentic.
People who know what their dominant gift(s) are should constantly work in those areas.
