How To Turn a Loss into a Victory

After a loss, all players & teams win if they learned something from the loss that will help them become a better player, teammate and person.

Congrats to Argyle High School Girls Basketball Team

Congrats to Argyle H.S. Girls, Skip Townsend, his staff and the entire team for winning the Whataburger Tournament for the 2nd straight year.

BBI is having a Band

We are working on a plan to have a live youth band (instruments, singers & musicians ) through our non-profit organization, Building Believers Inc.

This will be a Christ-centered youth band.

Our goal is to bring hope & encouragement to youth by providing tasteful music and song through our outreach & speaking ministry.

Donated instruments are needed. 100% tax write off through BBI.

For Parents of Kid's, Teenagers & Young Adults

Parents with kid's, teenagers and young adults. It's common to want to fight back when theirs a disagreement or an argument. But in the end no one wins.

Rather than make a mountain out of an ant bed, try asking God's help to forgive and settle all matters.

Take The High Road- Ask God!

Food for Thought for Youth

Happy is the man with a level-headed son; sad the mother of a rebel.

Proverb 10:1

A wise youth makes hay while the sun shines, but what a shame to see a lad who sleeps away his hour of opportunity.

Proverb 10:5

In Marriages Team Work Is Key

A worthy wife is her husband's joy and crown, the other kind corrodes his strength and tears down everything he does.

Proverbs 12:4

Have You Gotten Off Track?

If you've gotten off track in a healthy area of your life, it's never too late to get back on track. Let today be the beginning of something new and everlasting.

Want to feel better about yourself, do what it takes to get back on track.

You Can Do It!

Ashamed of The Gospel? Not!

As a called servant-leader, I'm not ashamed of the Gospel. For I know and have learned through reading, studying, hearing, fellow shipping and meditating on the word that we (Christian's) were made for God's pleasure. Therefore we must honor the word of God.

We are charged by Christ to spread the Gospel throughout all the earth, and that means all of us!

"Game On"

P.S. I'm no more ashamed of living a Christ centered life as I'm not ashamed to take a player to the basket to score. Just saying.

Why Attend Church?

God wants us all to attend a bible teaching church where the word of God is preached from the bible.

When we do this it gives us great hope in our day to day endeavors. As well as, we learn how to live a happy, peaceful, overcoming and Christ-centered life.

Get Up-Let's Go!

Friday & Saturday Night Youth Food For Thought:

Bad company corrupts good character.

Who are you hanging out with tonight?

Choices!

The Word Loser

People who base their life and self worth on the word loser, need to get a new life.

The Word Loser

Nowhere in life and especially in sports do I personally care for the word Loser.

It has such a negative impact on kids and young athletes. And too often young players tend to base their self worth on the word Loser.

Take it from me, sports is just a game, it's not life. You're more than an athlete. You are a wonderfully created child of God.

So, don't judge yourself based on the word LOSER!

Character Wins

In sports as well as life, good character wins.

Don't Sell Yourself Short

I'm convinced that everyone has something good inside of them worthy of liking & loving.

I'm absolutely convinced.

A Team Game Plan For Winning

1. Follow the coach's game plan.
2. Play as team.
3. Don't turn the ball over.
4. Play team defense.
5. Win 50/50 balls.
6. Limit and contest all shots especially 3 point shots.
7. Shut down hot handed shooters early.
8. Maintain balanced scoring as a team.
9. Don't panic when your opponent makes a run. Your run will come.
10. Make Free Throws

Let's not give up on one soul!

What I've learned the Most Throughout My Adult Life

I've learned to enjoy the little things, appreciate and speak for the people who have no voice, give to worthy causes, invest in the lives of youth, nothing good comes easy, to surround myself with intelligent people who know more than me, to seek God first and care for my family second, to not be ashamed of the Gospel, it's not the clothes that makes the man, it's the man that makes the clothes,
gossip has no place in life, God created us equally, being rude to people further widens the gap for hatred, use critics as fuel to help me get where I'm going, to be happy with myself and what I've been purposed to do in life, a simple smile encourages others, it's okay to pray for others on the spot, to forgive myself for my past sins, to embrace the beauty that life offers, not to allow money to become the root of my happiness, to treat others with respect, to lead by example and to accept others for who they are, not for what they have or what they can do for me.

Part 1, stay tuned for more....

Players Must Keep Their Game Lit

It's the personal responsibility of every player to keep their game lit when playing basketball. No  matter what the circumstances are, each player is obligated to over come all obstacles and do whatever it takes to keep the fire burning. Excuses don't matter.

"Excuses get players on the bench and coaches fired"

While on The Court, I'm Not Your Friend, I'm Your Opponent!

Once a player laces up those shoes and tuck that jersey in, all friendships aside, it's time to play ball.

"I'm not your friend, I'm your opponent"

When you're playing against an opponent, you're suppose to compete against them and everyone who's on their team including those high siders in the stands (however don't look at them or pay too much attention to them during the game) with everything you got.

And when your opponent is your best friend or friend, "you should give them the business." And what I mean by that is, you should compete against them as if they are an alien from another planet who's out to take what's rightfully yours (not happening)!

"Once the game is over and you win, you should respectfully shake hands and call it a day"

Friends for life usually strengthen each other through the battles along the journey.

Players, Stop Doubting & Start Believing

In the wide world of sports, there's a large number of players out there who look the part but certainly aren't ready to compete for the crown because for one reason or another they just don't believe that they can do it. They have too much doubt.

Although players are told and encouraged to believe that they have what it takes to be an impact player or to play at a high level, most often they tend to find reasons to believe otherwise.

Some would rather doubt themselves and play the pity party game rather than change their way of stinking thinking and start believing in themselves.

Conclusion:
Players who continue to doubt and are reluctant to believe will eventually cause more harm than good to themselves and others. Unless they stop doubting and start believing, life in sports can and will be a miserable experience and a unhealthy memory.

Helpful Bible Scripture:

"God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control."
2 Timothy 1:7

When Our Faith Is Being Tested

When everything is going well, there seems to be no reason to need faith. But when things start to slow down, problems arise, let downs occur, high expectations turn to low results and high hopes turn to meaningless words. This is when God expects us to believe in him through it all.

So, when your faith is being tested, remember, it's only a test. Hang in t...here and keep trusting and believing God to meet your every need.

"Throughout my life, I've learned to hang in there even when the tide gets higher than I can almost stand it." And to this day, every now and then, I must claim victory over the natural and believe God for the supernatural.

By faith shall we all stand!

Proverb 3:5 Trust in the lord with all your heart, might and soul and lean not unto your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.

When Players Go The Extra Mile- They Discover Sustained Happiness

In sports, happiness is often found and sustained through ongoing discovery. I believe that when players make up in their minds that they want to be really good, they must be willing to go the extra mile.

Going the extra mile helps players discover things about themselves that no one on earth can teach. And when a player puts in the extra work, they often improve. They start playing at a level that was once just a dream. And with that comes happiness!

During Tough Times, Be Patient & Trust God

Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:30-31

What To Do When You're Not Getting Playing Time

When you're not getting playing time, it's very easy to get down on yourself and start feeling self shame and self doubt. It's normal to feel that way. But let the truth be known, Basketball's just a game, It's not life.

In reality, you as a person are more than a basketball player. So, if for some reason you've worked hard, you've given it your very best and your best isn't good enough, take it in stride and remember that self worth is derived from working hard. But never stop working hard because things aren't going your way. Success in life still awaits you.

Through "The School of Hard Knocks" we fall down but we get back up again (with a smile).  We live, we learn, we grow, we persevere, we suffer, we're humiliated and we're tested. But in the end, we're strengthened for life's journey that surely awaits us.

So, regardless of whether you play or not or if you get the reward that you were hoping to receive (playing time) for the time and work that you in your game; hold on and don't quit because God's will for your life is ultimately what's most important. And remember, man doesn't have the power to control nor stop what God has destined for your life.

But let the truth be known, God sometimes allow his children to go through the "The Fire" or "The School of Hard Knocks" to strengthen them. So, be strong when you're being tested because weakness has no place in sports nor in life.

Helpful Bible Scripture:
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
Therefore, continue to be a good teammate, train daily as if you're a starter, give life your best at all times, start recognizing an tapping into the other gifts that God has bestowed upon you while hoping for the best in the game.  Smile and be that awesome person and teammate who holds his/her head up high and who cheers for the team without malice. Be a constant encourager to others. Now by all means don't give up nor give in, keep working and believing in yourself.

And remember, Basketball's just game, it's not life.

Enjoy The Ride!

Hoop Hunter Basketball College Note

Players who are interested in playing basketball in college need to hear the absolute truth. "It's not a game, it's a job" ,"You will have rules", "You will have roles" and "You will have responsibilities". And you don't get to choose what part of the job you like or dislike. Also, after signing your name on the dotted line, they own you and you must learn quickly how to adapt and embrace the direction in which they are leading the team. Oh, and about playing time, you nor your parents get to control that. My advice is always to keep a healthy attitude and stay ready when your number is called.

The reason I'm sharing this with you is too often young high school players have a false sense of reality when it comes to college. It's not all that they hoped it would be as it relates to athletics.

If student-athletes are going to make it in college they must grow up, be wise and make good choices. And realize that the world doesn't evolve around them.

What Players Need To Know About Skill Development Training & The Big 3

Todays players both boys and girls need to know that without ongoing skills development training and the Big 3, their current skills won't be enough to get them where they would like to go with basketball.

"Skills that are taught and learned early on in a players career is the blue print for successful play."

However, players must understand that skills development training alone isn't enough either. In order for players to improve their overall game, these 3 things must be present; players must maintain ongoing skills development training year round (with a trainer, coach or self), players must play pick-up basketball regularly (with serious players, not mom & dad) and players must play basketball in a team setting where they are constantly being taught in a structured environment.

Personal Investment & Personal Growth Can Lead to Success

Players and people who make a decision to invest in themselves can expect to see growth throughout their lives if the investment is lined up with their calling and the gifts that they have been given by Almighty God.

I personally believe that for each of us to fully fulfill our earthly destiny, that we should seek God's will for our lives through prayer, reading the word and meditating on it daily. Please know that God promises to reveal himself to each of us but he wants a close personal relationship and not a long distant relationship.

Therefore, before anyone spends a tremendous amount of money, time or thought on what they should be doing, my suggestion is to first seek God's will and purpose for your life and once he confirms your calling, begin to invest in you with all of your heart. Then watch the personal growth lead you to a meaningful and successful career and life.

"If your calling is from above and you accept it, with obedience, you are certain to be led by God in a way that brings Glory to Him and satisfaction to you."

Supportive Reading Material:

-Seek God First- Matthew 6:33

-With confidence in God, you will be strengthened- Phillipians 4:13
-Commit Your Plans to the Lord -Proverbs 6:3

Self Worth, Self Belief & Self Confidence Key To Success

Players who have a sense of self worth, self belief & self confidence typically do very well when competing in sports and throughout life.

It's a known fact that when a person feels good about themselves, they tend to be more motivated, resilient and determined; so much so that they believe they can do anything that they put their mind too.

Let's be honest, in life there's a hunger for educators, athletes, students, presidents, CEO's and CFO's to out perform their peer group and competitors. But for this to happen, these individuals must first possess the necessary tools needed to perform at peak levels.

But it starts and continues with self worth, self belief and self confidence, without it, people fail.

HHB/BBI Training Facility Closed Today

HHB/BBI will be closed today, Monday, December 9th. The conditions on our campus and around the Dunham Rd. area are still too icy to ask children and adults to come out. We will continue to monitor the situation but hope to get back on track tomorrow afternoon. We are sorry for the  inconvenience. Safety first!

Embrace The New You & Have A Loss of Memory About The Old You

Don't let the constant focus of your past (losses) derail you from experiencing the victories (wins) in store for your current life and future.

It's Not Your Fault:

Sin was first conceived by Lucifer (a former angel who became Satan, Isaiah 14:12-14) and then Adam & Eve, not us! We were born into sin. But we don't have to remain i...n it. Through repentance we're forgiven (Acts 2:38-39).

Therefore, don't hold yourself hostage for your past sins but start thanking God for His son Jesus (his death, burial & resurrection) and for all of your good deeds you've done in this world. Forget about the Old You and Start Dwelling on the New You!

Isaiah: 14: 12-14 (How Lucifer the Angle Got Kicked Out Of Heaven); Good Read

Acts 2:38-39 (Through Repentance we're forgiving); Good Read

Bad Weather Note for Employers

Managers, Supervisors & Leaders Should Be Considerate Towards Their Employees During Icy Weather Conditions:

I hope and pray once again that if the weather that we are suppose to get is real icy and horrible to drive on, that you don't make the least of your workers risk their life on treacherous roads just to open the doors while you sit at home in front of your cozy fire place. They have a family to...o and they deserve the right to not have to risk their life when conditions unfavorable for drivers. And also bare in mind, they're the one's who may not have that much needed 4 wheel drive vehicle. If shutting your doors saves a life, do it.

Simply saying, be considerate. Been on the other side. And it ain't pretty!

Don't forget to say, "I Love You"

The best way to demonstrate your love to your love one's besides (actions and gifts) is to simply say it; "I love you".

Try it, you might like it and it's free!

Good Luck!

DH Speaking Ministry Already Having an Impact on one Teenager

Teenage Youth & Surprising Message:
A couple of weeks ago I spoke to a group of teenagers at a local high school and I remember telling them that proverbs is a great place to begin reading the bible because it talks about real life issues that teenagers can understand and relate too.  After my speech, we prayed and I left.

Today, I received a message from one of the teenagers who attended the high school FCA event. I remember on that day that she didn't feel very well. However, she remained attentive and responsive to what was being said and asked of the group.

During this exciting but surprising message, she wanted me to know that she's been reading proverbs and she is now on the chapter 16. But while reading the bible she felt that the bible was speaking to her. Her question to me was, is that possible? And my answer to her was absolutely!

I told her that the Bible is the word of God, and that the tri- unity is; God the father, God the son and God the holy spirit. And that the holy spirit lives inside of all believers (it also communicates with us and act as our personal counselor).

She then wanted to know what she should read after she finishes proverbs. And my reply was, Matthew. I told her that to be a Christian means that we are Christ followers. And to be a Christ follower it's helps to know what Christ's life was like while living on the face of the earth. I then reminded her that we are to be Christ ambassadors. And she said, I am!

Conclusion:
Christian adults should  never underestimate what the needs of children, teenagers and young adults are. Too often we assume that they're happy because there's so much going on around them. But what we fail to realize is that they too need to hear from others (away from the church) that God love's them, he forgives them of all of their sins and that he wants them to have a daily personal relationship with him for life. But they need us to help lead and guide them their journey.

What I Learned:
And last, what I learned from this experience is that we should never assume that children, teenagers and young adults don't need to hear from those who are no longer baby Christian's. But that we should make ourselves available to them so that we can help and encourage them to live a Christ-centered life.

Thanks and How You Can Support My Speaking Ministry:

Thanks for allowing me to share this wonderful story with you. Please keep me in your prayers. As I mentioned earlier, I have been called to speak. I enjoy motivating kids with hopes that it strengthens their walk with Christ, gives them a sense of personal confidence and that it strengthens the family unit.

Please consider donating to Building Believers Inc. (501c3), P.O. Box 2045, Roanoke, Texas 76262 or you may donate online at www.buildingbelievers.org.  Your support towards my speaking engagements will help me spread the Gospel throughout middle schools, high schools, college sports programs and throughout the community.

Turnovers Creates Losses & Too Many Losses Get Coaches Fired

Players, stop turning the ball over! Consider the ball glass rather than a leather ball.

1. Player-"Turnover"
2. Player-"My Bad"
3. Team-"We Lost"
4. Coach-"I'm Fired"
5. Player- "I'm Sorry"

Coach's Family-"Not Good Enough"

Regarding Turnovers & The Word "My Bad"

The #1 word & phrase that I would like to see banned from players using after a turnover is; "MY BAD".

I wish referees could give players or the team a technical foul every time that word is used after a turnover.

Players, stop turning the ball over! The majority of teams lose basketball games because of too man turnovers.

Players with Attitudes Usually Hurt The Team's Chances of Winning

Teams with players who have attitudes like those listed below usually ruins the entire season before it gets started.

In addition, coaches who keep disruptive players on their team without any disciplinary actions or reprimand, can cause good players on the team to want to transfer schools, leave the team and ...ultimately cost the team their season!

1. Complainer's
2. Doubter's
3. Disrespectful Comments & Facial Expressions
4. Locker room instigator's
5. Player's who refuse to play hard when asked

Basketball & Real Life Questions & Observations

 Basketball:
Q: Why is it that some basketball players do very well when they play summer ball but can't seem to find that same level of play with their middle and high school programs?

Real Life
Q: What happens when a top level employee (top producer) leaves one company and joins a new employer but isn't able to produce quite the same
 as they did before?

Top producers must produce regardless of the circumstances surrounding them!

Happiness For The Holidays

When I was child the thought of happiness involved me Receiving; but now that I'm older and wiser, the thought of happiness for the holidays involves me Giving!

Doing something for others, be it big or small is the best way to experience holiday happiness!

Try it, you might like it.

The Truth about Sports and Quitting

Most successful players at one point or another (when things weren't going their way) thought about quitting. It's more common than you think. Just remember, its only a thought, you don't have to make it a reality.

"Keep working, and the results will come."

Adam & Eve Didn't Bring Sin Into the World; Lucifer Did!

"How art thou fallen from heaven
O day-star, son of the morning! (Helel ben Shahar)
How art thou cast down to the ground,
That didst cast lots over the nations!
And thou saidst in thy heart:
'I will ascend into heaven,
Above the stars of God (El)
Will I exalt my throne;
And I will sit upon the mount of meeting,
In the uttermost parts of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will be like the Most High (Elyon).'
Yet thou shalt be brought dow to the nether-world,
To the uttermost parts of the pit."

God's Calling Me Into (Christ-Centered) Motivational Speaking

 Dear friends,

Please pray for me as God has gifted me in the area of motivational speaking; and he is currently preparing me for Christ-centered public speaking. Throughout the years, I've sensed the need and developed a heart to help athletes navigate their way through life using life experiences, wisdom and biblical based principles.

Currently, I feel led to speak to athletes in middle schools, high schools and colleges, especially FCA events. I'm open to other opportunities but I will do my best to stay in the area I feel called.

If you know of additional FCA opportunities throughout the area that would allow me to speak, please email the information to me at: hoophunter@hoophunter.com

P.S. My plans are to continue to oversee HHB/BBI Youth Training Organizations.  If you feel led to give a financial donation for the expenses related to this speaking ministry, feel free to donate to Building Believers Inc., P.O. Box 2045, Roanoke, Texas 76262 (BBI is a 501C3 non-profit organization, 100% of your donations are tax deductible).

Maya Angelou

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

HATER BY MAYA ANGELOU

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends
all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.

They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...

That's why you have to be careful with whom you share
your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't
handle seeing you blessed...

It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God
wanted you to be like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?

You never know what people have gone through to get what they have...
The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story...
If the grass looks greener on the other side of the
fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

We've all got some haters among us!

Some people envy you because you can:
a) Have a relationship with God
b) Light up a room when you walk in
c) Start your own business
d) Tell a man / woman to hit the curb (if he / she isn't about the right thing)
e) Raise your children without both parent being in the home

Haters can't stand to see you happy.
Haters will never want to see you succeed.

Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be on our side.

How do you handle your undercover haters?

You can handle these haters by:

1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2. Having a purpose to your life:
Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled.
A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.
Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.
3. By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation.

Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when its your time to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME!

When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters,
'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me...'

A Friend Shared This With Me Because She Said It Reminded Her of Me

"I commit you to God and to the Word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." (Acts 20:32 NIV)

You have an inheritance coming to you. If you read God's Word, the Bible promises one for you.

The Bible says in Acts 20:32, "I commit you to God and to the Word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified."
An inheritance is what you get for being part of a family that's rightfully yours.

Pretend your father was Warren Buffet, and he dies. If you never took the time to read the will, you'd be foolish. You wouldn't get what was rightfully due to you. You wouldn't benefit from what belongs to you as a child of Warren Buffet.

When you become a follower of Jesus, you're not just a believer - you're a belonger. You become a part of God's family. Family privileges come along with that decision. You have a spiritual inheritance.

But if you walked through your entire life and you didn't know what benefits were available to you as a child of God, that would be sad - and foolish. God wants you to grow and know what's available to you from him. You need to read the Bible to do that.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

The purpose of the Bible is to help you live out the purpose God has for your life; it's God's inheritance that's due to you. God wants you to be thoroughly equipped for what you've been made to do. To do that, he does four things through Scripture:

- He teaches you. God shows you the path on which you should walk.
- He rebukes you. God shows you when you're off the path.
- He corrects you. God shows us how you can get back on the path.
- He trains you. God shows you how you can stay on the path.

That's how God's Word helps you grow and get that great inheritance God has prepared for you.

Talk About It

How would your life change if it reflected the truth that you have an inheritance from the King of Kings?
- What benefits from your inheritance have you not yet accepted?
- Is the Bible a useful tool for you each day? Are you taking full advantage of its instruction?

Players Must Learn to "Shake Off Mistakes"

Don't Look At the Coach: (unless your name is called)Players who spend most of their time looking at the coach after making a mistake tend to hurt their chances of staying in the game. Self confidence and self approval is key.

Shake Mistakes Off Quickly:
The sooner a player learns to shake off their mistakes during the game, they are less likely to be substituted for. Also, players are better off when they learn not to look over at the coach after making a mistake. Not looking over at the coach after a mistake shows them that you believe in yourself and that you've quickly overcome it and moved on.

Don't Overthink:
"Players who make mistakes and then spend the rest of the game overthinking, usually does more harm to themselves than good."

 Shake it off and play!

If you want to get ahead in today's world

Be willing to go in a different direction from the majority of others. Be willing to create your own paths even if you have to go alone (Become A "Trailblazer"- a person who makes, does, or discovers something new and makes it acceptable or popular or a person who marks or prepares a trail through a forest or field for other people to follow).

Learn to think for yourself. Those of you who have been following the crowd, ask yourself if you're any better off. If the answer is no, turn around and move in a different direction. But don't let the blind or majority lead you astray.

And more importantly, seek God's wisdom for your new direction. I promise, you will be happy that you changed course. I'm speaking from experience.

And God Bless Us All!

Congrats: Hayden Hunter - Comitts to Weber State University

This week my son Hayden will be signing a letter of intent to attend Weber State University next year on a student-athletic basketball scholarship. He's a senior, 6'0 lefty point guard at Richland High School.

Note:
Weber State is in the Big Sky Conference. They are a top tier program and are currently ranked and expected to finish first in their conference. Great coaching staff, culture, high character players and great track record for student-athlete success!

Thanks:
I want to personally thank all of my son's (Hoop Hunter) youth coaches especially (Michael Eddy-current high school coach at Guyer, Wendell Williams-current high school coach at Denton, Len Medcafe-current HHB trainer and Chad Nothe-current Westlake H.S. Head Coach) who trained and mentored him early on. It was at Hoop Hunter that he got off to a terrific start by developing his skills, athletic ability, knowledge of the game and his b-ball I.Q.

Parents who surround their kids with a solid network,(men and women with character and integrity) adds value to their overall career:

I would like to also thank Hayden's middle school Coach Mike Stitt (Hillwood M.S.), Vonzell Thomas (AAU Coach) and Richard Bacon (H.S. Coach. Great Job, Great Network!

Stop The Stinking Thinking

"So a man thinks, so is he." If we think we can't do any better, then we probably won't. If we think we can't change our ways, then we probably won't.

But when we stop placing limits on ourselves and start believing and thinking like a King's Kid; only then will we discover that we are fully equip with what we need to get what we want. But first, we must stop our stinking thinking!

Being a Competitive Basketball Player Isn't Easy

What does it take to become a competitive basketball player?
It takes a relentless drive, year round training, dedicated heart, love for the game, a will to go the extra mile, skin that's thicker than an elephant, willingness to accept all types of criticism, internal & external drive, determination, feeling of disappointment after losses, competitive nature (on & off the court), diligent work habits (which begins in practice & carries over into the game), good teammates, perseverance, consistent pre-game & during the game focus, personal responsibility & accountability, a little luck and lots of prayer.

What will players will go through?
All competitive players will go through "The Fire" before they reach the top of their game." That's why coaches do their very best to prepare you so that once the battle begins, you will be well equip to withstand and overcome all the things that tries to hinder your efforts to get to the top.

"You can do it, but the reality is; it's hard work, it's not easy, but it's worth it!"

As a former Southland Conference MVP (UNT 1988-89'), Dallas Mavs rookie free agent (2 training camps), CBA, professional player-Argentina & UNT assistance basketball coach,  I speak to you  from experience.

What Most B-Ball Players Lack But Have In Common?

Most lack the natural instincts needed to read and react when playing competitive basketball.
"Basketball is a game of structured skilled play and instinctive skilled play."

About Instinctive Play:
Instinctive play is developed at an early age by players who play lots of 1 on 1 basketball. This is where depth perception is developed, natural instincts, individual man to man offense and defense, go to moves, creative thinking, craftiness and savvy play is developed.

What is basketball About?
"Basketball is about a 2 man game (pick & roll or pick & pop) or 1 on 1 game."

What Happens When Offensive Plays Breakdown?
When a structured offensive play breaks down (which happens almost all the time), the player with the ball must read and react to the situation. However, only players who have good 1 on 1 instincts are usually the one's who often make plays based on plays breaking down. Others often look to the coach for answers instead of reading and reacting to the situation!

What's Needed?
Balance! Players need to learn how to play 1 on 1 and how to execute a structured offensive play.

Quit Thinking So Much & Just Play

Players who think too much, tend to complicate their game. When this happens, it not only hurt the player's individual game but it hurts the entire team as well. The way to lesson over thinking while playing the game is to simply read each situation and react to what you see at that moment.

Also, when you make mistakes, learn to shake them off, remain focused and confident. And the way to do that is to continue to work hard on both ends of the court by hustling.

Do this, it works!

Be Yourself But Don't Be Ugly

If you love doing something, don't worry about what others think. Do it and do it well. Remember, we were uniquely created and all of our gifts and abilities come from the lord. Who cares what other think.

Keep Basketball Simple & You Will Succeed

1. When dribbling, always look past the defender (advance your sight); this will help you see the entire court with a wide angle view and read the defenders better. It will also help you become a better passer.
2. Learn how to catch and shoot from a ready to catch position and shoot the ball in areas that you can consistently make shots.
3. Learn how to attack the rim (basket) from the perimeter using 1 or 2 dribbles. Finish the lay-up or make the right pass.
4. When driving, make sure that you get paid (get the lay-up, draw the foul, get the lay-up and draw the foul).
5. Learn how to set your man up by moving without the ball and shooting off of screens (catch & shoot).
6. Learn how to shorten the court on defense (backcourt) so that you don't allow the dribbler (speedboat) to use the entire court (ocean) to move about freely. Make the ocean a lake, then a river and then a pond.
7. When rebounding, anticipate (body must be low) when the shooter will take the shot then beat your man to the spot; then go get the rebound. It's that simple.
8. With better conditioning, comes increased activity.
9. Being aware of open pockets (open areas) in the defense will allow you to move (without the ball) freely but with a purpose; demand the ball and take a good shot.
10. The simpler you make the game, the more you'll realize that you can play.

*Bonus
Is there anything that I described in the notes above that you can't do? I didn't think so. Therefore, stop making the game of basketball a hard game, the simpler the game, the better you'll play.

When You've Wronged Someone

With words or actions or both, make it right! And regain your good conscious.

Parents Should Support Their Coaches

When I was a young player and I had to miss practice, it was a known fact that once I returned, I would have to run extra, which never hurt me nor my teammates.

Today, coaches are being highly targeted for every single word they speak and action(s) they take; which in my opinion is unconsciously and dis respectfully wrong.

Parents with good coaches, please stand up and support them by making sure that the principal and athletic directors know the truth.

And then Pray!

The Most Tragic Accident

The most tragic accident that we can have is to someday die without Christ!

The only way to heaven is through Christ!

John 3:16 say's, God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who ever believe in him would not perish but have eternal life.

Walking Wisely or Unwisely

We can never go wrong when we obey God!

And remember worldly wisdom (jealousy, disorder, hypocrisy, selfish ambitions) is opposed to Godly wisdom (perfect, pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy, good fruits unwavering without hypocrisy).

James 3:13-15

Confidence & Assertiveness *(how they work)

To have confidence means, to know! If you're uncertain about any area of your game, you won't play with assertiveness (aggressiveness)!

Successful Parents Should

1. Should lead their children to Christ.
2. Should be open to their children's salvation at an early age.
3. Should schedule a time to talk to their children about the Gospel.

Happy Halloween from Hoop Hunter

It's nice to see how excited and motivated so many people get for a day like today (Halloween). If we as a society can make ourselves like this day, why not the others?

Today is a special day for me because each year, I see so many people (kids and even adult kids) get out of their comfort zone, express themselves with costumes, smiles and creative humor. Keep it going....

Praying and hoping the world see's the beauty of living. We are truly in control of our smiles, laughs and our actions.

Happy Halloween!

Hoop Hunter B-Ball Note

If you want to continue to play well and look good for your team, always set aside at least 15, 30 or 45 minutes several times a week to focus on the areas of your game that you need to stay sharp or needs improving. Because if your performance isn't good within the team setting, you could find yourself on the bench.

Student-Athletes & FCA

If your school has FCA, get involved, invite your friends and each of your teachers. This is a great way to witness to your classmates as well as teachers and non-Christian

Hoop Hunter Fan Conduct Note

Those who attend basketball games need to be given a code of conduct pamphlet they are expected to abide by.

Too often good parents and fans get caught at arenas sitting next too the worst disgruntled fan who thinks it's their job to tell you how bad the coach and the players are.

The best way to shut them up is to say, "If its that bad, let's pray about it, right here right now."

People Not To Sit Next Too During Games

1. People who yell and belittle the coaches with anger.
2. Parents who coach their kid from the stands.
3. A group of republicans and democrats who believe its their job to win independent fans over to their party with hopes to get the coaches fired.
4. Obnoxious fans who yell and curse at the coach and referees with venom.
5. Program killers, haters and back stabbers!

10 Ways To Get On The Coach's Good Side

1. Improve Your Skills.
2. Improve Your Play.
3. Hustle More In Practice & Games.
4. Compete Against Better competition.
5. Know All The Plays!
6. Don't Turn The Ball Over Repeatedly.
7. Don't Question The Coaches Authority By Talking Back!
8. Come Early & Stay After Practice To Work On Specific Areas Of Your Game....
9. Be An Inspirational Leader When Sitting On The Bench.
10. Don't Talk About Quitting, Because You Eventually Will!

Bonus:
Don't complain after a game if you're only given a little time to play. Be thankful and appreciative of any time that you're given and make the most of it, even if it's 2 minutes.

How to average 20pts a game without receiving a pass to shoot

Rebound & Recycle all the garbage (missed shots) that are taken throughout the game (by your teammates) with a sense of enthusiasm.

Start low, anticipate the shot, locate the ball with your eyes and then "Go Get The Ball By Moving Your FEET!"

If it's a short shot, it'll be a short rebound, if it's a long shot, it'll most likely be a long rebound. Remember this part and you'll do well.

As Christian's

The bible say's that Christian's will be occasionally persecuted and talked about by others but have no fear for we have already overcome all who dislike and hate the Christ in us.

Stand Strong In The Lord!
1

Stand Strong In The Lord

Although its hard for others to accept the new you (Christian), don't look back (at the old you), but embrace, press forward and enjoy the Christ in you now that you've been set free from your past sins.

Christian's Listen to Christ

1. When Christ says yes, the world says no.

2. When the world says yes, Christ says no.

Following Christ is not popular these days but those who chose to follow Him will always prosper and overcome.

In God we trust!

Two Types of Very Important Practices

1. Team Practice-This is where the focus is on the team.

2. Individual Player Practice-This is where you must make a sacrifice and be willing to go the extra mile and work on isolated areas of your game outside of the team setting. This is your "Insurance Policy."

Don't be afraid to ask your coaches if it's okay to spend an extra 15 to 20 minutes a day on areas that will keep your play sharp.

*For coaches who don't believe in this, I beg to differ. This is extremely common in top level high school programs, college as well as NBA & WNBA Teams.

Coaches, please allow time for your players to get in some extra individual work on their own if they're willing to work. In the end, it will serve you and your program better.

Like & Dislikes

Don't let the likes or dislikes of others stop you from getting what you want out of life. Keep working and believing that you can do anything that you put your mind too.

Deon

Player Practice Accountability Question

Now that today's practice is over, do you know and are you able to discuss what area's you improved?

After each practice, players should ask themselves, "What did I learn today and what areas of the game did I improve."

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Upcoming Special Event: "The Complete Shot with Deon Hunter"

During this 3 hour event, I will dissect the shot in depth (for those players who still haven't fully grasp how to shoot) and then put it back together. The goal is go the extra mile with the players who are in need of extra help. And stick with them until they get it.

Stay tuned!

Pray & Get Answers

If you want serenity and peace, pray all throughout your day and trust that each of your prayers are being heard. Prayers not prayed are prayers unheard and prayers unheard are prayers unanswered.

AT HHB, We Believe That Prayer Changes Things

Today, I'm praying for super natural blessings to flow into the lives of all faithful believers. No matter what your circumstances are, keep trusting in the lord and never lose hope. God's eyes are forever upon the sparrow and His children.

And God Bless Us All!

Real Life vs Basketball Training Comparison

Q: Why do drivers put gas in their car?
A: Because the "Believe" that once it's in the tank, it will get them where they're trying to go.

Q: Why do professionals & amateurs have trainers?
A: Because they "Believe" that it will help improve and strengthen their overall attitude, self-confidence and their mental and physical approach to competing and becoming a better player.

"If you don't believe in it, don't do it, but don't be surprised if you're go no where"

Although It's Hard For Some To Believe

1. God can heal.
2. God can restore.
3. God can promote.
4. God can sustain.
5. God (Tri-Unity) can and wants to live inside of the heart of those who believe and accepts Jesus Christ as their personal lord and savior.

*Its through Faith that we believe and are justified!

Hoop Hunter's Healthy Diet For Student-Athletes
