2015 HHB & BBI Has Lots of Wonderful Blessings Coming Your Way

Proverbs 3:5 say's, "Trust in the lord with all your heart, mind and soul and lean not unto your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths straight."

And with that said, I want to personally thank each of you for (23 years) helping to pioneer such wonderful, spirit filled Christian youth sports organizations.

And because of your loyalty, commitment and God's faithfulness, He's inspired me to do some wonderful things (through faith) to bless children, youth, families and communities.

God has placed it on my heart to make basketball training and opportunities for kids (in all areas) more affordable (for everyone) as well as, He's placed it on my heart to go out into the world and adopt communities with children, who have greater needs than the norm and build hope, dreams, mentorship and spread the Gospel.

Therefore, beginning in 2015, you can expect to see several changes that I hope will bless you and your family and thousands of those who are considered the least of them.

Please pray with me as I take on this faithful challenge to continue to impact the world through the wonderful game of basketball, which, if taught well, can teach life skills and have a positive impact on children, families and communities throughout the world.

If you're in a position to volunteer,  give or if you work for a company and have the means to sow into our Building Believers (not-for profit) organization, we would love to have you partner with our mission.

To donate to BBI go to; www.buildingbelievers.org, together, we can impact the world.

Respectfully,

Deon Hunter

"The Mental Game" Is Most Important

One of the most important but forgotten elements of the game that impacts how a talented, gifted, skilled, smart & athletic player fails to overcome throughout the season is the "Mental" part of the game.

Although young talented players are capable of having success, too often because of a weak "Mental" thought process, they are limited in their ability to overcome obstacles necessary to having sustained success.

"The Mental Game," like other important elements, must be taught, developed and nurtured. In many cases, the lack of having a strong Mental game is the life & death of successful performances.

There's a price you have to pay to be successful. Making one shot during a game has nothing to do with it! It's how to handle and deal with obstacles and hurdles.

Parents & Fans, Season Your Temper During Basketball Games, Don't Be An Embarrassment!

To all  high school parents & fans:

In the next couple of weeks your favorite teams and player (s) will play lots of basketball during high school tournaments. And throughout the course of each game, things are not going to always go the way that you would like for them too. And as you already know, it's very easy to get emotionally involved in the play of your child, other peoples children as well as the play of the team.

May I offer a little advice?

Whatsoever you personally decide to do during the course of your frustration while watching a game, remember that your actions, be it good or bad, will be highly scrutinized by your peer group, administrators, other high school coaches, college coaches, your kids peer group and the public.

And also remember that as you walk up to others during or after games, that it's not a healthy idea to bash the team, the coaches and other players who you're not happy with behind their backs simply because your view of how things are going don't line up with reality. Not everyone on the face of earth agrees with you.

"As for me, if you see me at a game and we speak, keep it positive and I'll listen, go negative and watch me go the other way."

That's my 2 cents for today.

Good Luck!

During The Holidays, Don't Worry Be Happy!

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 6-7

This Holiday Season 3 Nice Spices To Share with Others: Encouragement, Hope & God's Faithfulness

This holiday season remember to be an encouragement to others by bringing them hope and sharing God's faithfulness. For He promises to be with us throughout all of our day to day endeavors.

Therefore, lets continue to put our full and faithful trust in Him. And all it takes is a simple moment of reflection for all of us to realize that He's brought us from a mighty long way. So, hold on, don't quit, because He's with you.

Happy Holidays!

Coach vs Player

It Takes A Collaborative Working Effort:

It takes a collaborative working effort on behalf of the coach as well as the player before either can begin moving forward towards a meaningful and successful coach vs player relationship.

The player & coach must respect each other; and the coach should never exasperate the player.

I believe that before a player can get what they hope to gain from a coach, they must first respect and respond to the coaches authority, especially when asked to play a specific role.

However, I also believe that coaches bare the responsibility to help each player improve in areas of need, build confidence, be honest and look out for the players best life long interest (educationally, morally & athletically) without prejudice.

Why A Growing Number of Player Can't Perform 4 Their High School Coaches?

One of the things that I continue to recognize about young talented high school players is the fact that most have this idea that they can only perform on the court when they're being coached by their AAU or club team coaches (during the summer).

Perhaps this is true for them but the reality is this, if you can produce for your AAU & club team coaches and not your high school coaches (given you're getting a chance to play) this can have a negative impact on your team, career and ultimately colleges recruiting you.

As life goes on, what will you tell your employer?

To me, if you've been given a fair chance to prove yourself, you should be able to produce for your coaches and team. If a fair chance to prove yourself hasn't been given, I fully understand.

But regardless, keep working, you never know when your # will be called. The question is, when your # is called, will you be ready?

Shooting without the Dribble

"One of the most important things that a player must be able to do to play on the offensive end of the court is to be able to shoot the basketball without putting it on the floor."

Steps to practice to help you accomplish this:

#1 Back spin the ball to yourself to simulate receiving a pass.

#2 Catch the ball firmly.

#3 Pivot and square up to the basket.

#4 Feet apart, rear-end down, head up.

#5 Shoot quickly, concentrate on good form.

#6 Be sure to cover all areas of the floor that are game shots for your position.

*Do this over and over and over and over and over until you get the muscle memory down.

To Whom We Belong

The life that we live is not ours. We belong to the creator, God Almighty.
Therefore we should make ourselves available to him 24/7. He made us for His pleasure. Everything else is meaningless.

Plant A Good Seed

This holiday season, take a moment wherever you go to plant a good seed in the hearts of others.
Holiday Good Seed Ideas:
1. Remain positive when having a conversation with others.
2. Show kindness to others.
3. Smile everywhere you go on purpose.
4. Stir those who like to gossip in a different direction.
5. Find something nice to say about everyone.
*Exhaust yourself in loving others!

But I Will:

But I will stand, trust & depend on your holy word to get me through all of life's trials & tribulations; although it's not the most popular thing to do.
Because I truly believe!

Living By Faith

When walking by faith, remember to pace yourself; it's not a race, it's a journey.

Hold On, Don't Quit!

When you've done all that you know to do meanwhile trusting God and being as obedient as you can, remember that God's grace is upon you and will make up the difference.
Don't quit and never give up because all of those unwanted trials you are experiencing is developing you for something greater.

The Mirror, A Mere Reflection

Looking in the mirror only gives us a reflection, image and/or picture of what we look like on the outside.

Never use it to measure what's on the inside.

The beauty of what's on the inside of us should be measured by what's on the inside of our heart, mind and soul.

Jesus Christ

The Enemy Is After Our Expectations

The devil wants us to accept a wedding without wine, a life without joy, a house without a home and a marriage without love.
The devil is a liar, don't let him steal our expectations.

Basketball Advice

A former college MVP once said that, "during the season, the best never rest."

If you want to maximize your full potential, you must continue to invest in yourself. Remember, at the end of every game the coaches look at stats & film, and neither lie.

Although basketball is a team game, it's made up of individual performances. And in many cases when your performance isn't good enough, you have to sit the bench.

Do what you have to do to keep your game sharp or else the bench awaits!

Q: What to do when you're having coach-player problems?

A: Pray about it but respect the authority of the coach.
B. Rise above it to the best of your ability.
C. Raise your production on the court.

*Also know that sometimes in life, the only person you can change is yourself and how you deal with things you can't control.
